FM Posted March 9, 2003 Share Posted March 9, 2003 We have a problem at our stores and would be happy to pay someone reliable to fix it for us. The problem is: We removed the automatic selection of the cheapest shipping method from the checkout because that resulted lots of orders coming in with "store pickup" choosed when actually the customer want's the order by post or cash on delivery. So now the customer is forced to choose a payment method but not a shipping method. That results lots of order coming without any shipping method so the shipping charges are not calculated. So first thing what we need is that the customer could not confirm the order without selecting a shipping method. After that is working a new problem will come: If customer chooses for example "wire transfer" as a payment method he would need to choose the "normal post delivery" as a shipping method because we have already recieved the money before we ship. But it often occurs that the cusomer chooses "cash on delivery" as the shipping method which adds some extra charges to the order. So we would need: Customer would not be able to choose the wrong shipping method after selecting the payment method or other way around. So the customer would always have to choose the right "couple" to be able to confirm order. ============================ At the moment our payment methods are: Cash (the customer pays cash at the store) Cash on delivery (the customer pays the order at the post office) Wire transfer (the customer transfers the money to our account) At the moment our shipping methods are: Store pickup (customer picks up the order from our store) Cash on deliver (order is deliver by post and customer pays at the post office) Normal post (order paid by wire transfer is sent by normal post) ============================ The right combinations of methods are: Cash + Store pickup Cash on deliver + Cash on delivery Wire transfer + Normal post ============================ Here is about all I can explain. If someone can fix our oscommerce installation to force the above combinations to be choosed (and in the future other combinations also) please contact me! Thank you! Ajeh Posted March 12, 2003 Share Posted March 12, 2003 One way to do this is to add an additional validation to the checkout where if the original shipping module selected does not match the payment module ... then flip the customer back to the shipping methods for a new selection. I would also add a new message to the customer as to why they were taken back to the shipping page so they do not get confused. To make the selection process easier, you could even add to the shipping page an options combinations message, that may help the customer start out with the right selections to begin with. The verification routine would still need to be there, as they may still choose the wrong combination. It would take a bit of coding, but it could be done as you have defined it. I think I have the bugs worked out ... now I have to play catchup on things that did come through.
