Subcategory links

I have a side nav with main category links that when clicked on expands another list of subcategory links, this is working fine.

 

But these subcategory links are appearing on some pages (which is what i want), and not others.

 

As far as I know, all these pages are using the same template, but why do some pages have the subcategory links and some don't??

 

Anyone familiar or have experience with this?? If it has to do with code and not a simple setting in the admin panel that's fine.

 

I just need to know what file to look into, or if there are any modifications to certain variables.
