jgkiefer
I am new to OSC. I am confused on how to set the tax schedule. Since I am in California I am required to charge tax to orders being delivered in California. However there are two different tax rates, one for inside my county and one for outside. To make it a simple question: How would I set the tax to be 7.25% in California except San Francisco which is 8.50%?
♥Loaded Commerce
In my experience in setting up shops in Georgia, USA, you charge all those who order from your state, but the rate you charge them is based on your county. You do not need to make a distinction from one county to the next, jsut charge all state orders 8.50% tax (if you are in San Fransisco) Best Regards, Salvatore Iozzia Loaded Commerce - Oscommerce - All Loaded Up. jgkiefer
I had tax class today, really boring stuff, but informative. In California we charge tax to orders delivered in CA. We have to charge the state tax of 7.25%. The other perchentages are city and county & regional transit tax, (Totaling 8.500% or +1.25%) which we are only required to collect if delivering taxable goods inside the county. Now we have the choice of collecting a "courtesy" tax of 8.50% on all CA orders if we want to, but then we must break down the CA counties and their precentages when filing the tax forms. Confused yet? cause I am  Seems the easiest way is to collect only what is necessary. So I may be wrong but collecting 8.50% for local orders and 7.25% for other in state orders is the easiest. But how to set OSC to handle the tax structure I do not know. If anyone else has experience with California sales tax I would welcome and feedback with how you handle it. What ever happened to the days of the tax free internet? You would think they would at least try to make it simple to get their tax money.

I am also in California, the city in which my store is located has recently instigated a city tax. The state board of equlization says I have to collect 7.75% for all of California, and an additional .25% for residents of my city. Sound similar to what you went through, but I don't see a resolution to your problem. Thanks, Rick Knight
