EverAfterRJJ Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 I had an xml sitemap created for me a while ago but recently I have had Ultimate SEO URL's installed so wanted to update the sitemap. I decided to downloaded and install Chemo's Google XML Sitemap version 1.3. It all went through successfully and I have set up a cron job to update it regularly but I am having a problem: When I view sitemapindex.xml in my browser, it lists three xml files (sitemapproducts.xml, sitemapcategories.xml and sitemap.xml). When I view sitemap.xml in my browser it shows all of my old URL's before the Ultimate SEO URL contribution was installed (e.g. cPath=29). My old sitemap was also named sitemap.xml so is it just copying this? I don't understand why it won't update the URL's? Please excuse my ignorance, i'm very much still learning about this kind of thing!! Thank you in advance
EverAfterRJJ Posted October 26, 2010 Author Posted October 26, 2010 Could it be because there is no dummy file named sitemap.xml that is writeable by the web server in my googlesitemap folder?

Oh i'm sorry, yes I do know what you mean. It says that all three files were generated succesfully. The problematic sitemap.xml file is listed within the sitemapindex.xml file. It doesn't list any errors it's just not been updated with my new SEO friendly URL's.

EverAfterRJJ Posted October 26, 2010 Author Posted October 26, 2010 And when it runs it should give you the url to your products sitemap. Going to that URL does not give you the correct URL's? Thank you for your reply. The new product and category sitemaps work perfectly and display my new product URL's. It's within sitemapindex.xml, in the sitemap.xml file that my old URL's still remain. All of my information pages are listed in here too, but it hasn't picked up on new pages that i've recently added. I never deleted my old sitemap (with the same name) so i'm wondering if it's just using this file but isn't set up to update as it is an old file and wasn't generated with Chemo's contribution. Thank you for your continued help.

Google Sitemap XML does not use a sitemap file called sitemap.xml When you go to www.yourdomain/sitemapindex.xml is one of the line items displayed a sitemap.xml file? Maybe you should change the name of it as a test and see if it breaks anything. Community Bootstrap Edition, Edge Avoid the most asked question. See How to Secure My Site and How do I...?

Should there be any other files in sitemapindex.xml other than sitemapproducts.xml and sitemapcategories.xml? There must be somewhere for my information pages?

EverAfterRJJ Posted October 26, 2010 Author Posted October 26, 2010 In your Administration -> Google XML SEO there are selctions to include sitemap pages for manufacturers, specials, etc... turn on whichever you want. The version that I downloaded didn't come with an admin section (it's one of the older versions). I just need to have my information pages listed somewhere on the sitemap as they are quite important.
