Caterpillar Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 My hosting company is strongly suggesting to convert my Oscommerce2.2 and MySQL44 database to a MySQL5 one. I am not very programming literate and am worried it will not be a simple conversion. I have searched the database and cannot find any problems but was wondering if others who have done this can advise if it is smooth or if not what I should watch out for. Cheers

MrPhil Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 There are changes you need to make to the PHP code, to change some of the SQL queries due to incompatible changes in MySQL 5. In addition to Geoffrey's links, see http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/topic/335136-osc-and-mysql-5-1054-errors for the theory behind it and a list of changes. By the way, some people will tell you osC is MySQL 5 ready, but it's not (they're confused -- it's PHP 5 ready, actually, pre-5.3). The needed changes are not in the code as of 2.2 RC2a. I don't know if the upcoming osC 2.3 (if it ever appears) will have the fixes built in. For 2.2 RC2a, there are additional changes necessary if your server goes to PHP 5.3 or higher (see "deprecated functions" add-on).
