Backing up database via mysqldump not able to restore

I apologize if this is a bit off-topic for this forum.

I have a site that is based on a template.

I can backup and restore the DB without any problems via the admin interface.

If I backup the DB with mysqldump it appears to work just fine, but the restore doesn't work.

My goal is to do automated incremental backup of the DB like I do with other files related to the site.

Thanks in advance.

"restore doesn't work" covers a multitude of sins. Can you find a specific error? What's in the backup (.sql file) -- does it include DROP TABLE and CREATE TABLE statements? If not, what is the state of your database when you attempt a restore? Have you emptied out tables, or dropped them, or what? So this is entirely outside of osC, or are you using osC's admin functions to restore the database (dump created with mysqldump)? If you're mixing systems, perhaps there is something in the .sql file format that osC doesn't like. For example, is it compressed or readable text?

Solved!

Dah!

I was trying mysqldump < to restore instead of

mysql <

I googled the error and found the answer in about a minute.

Thanks for the reply.
