Hi there Crystal, assuming you are running a osCommerce store, there's good and bad news. Kind of bad news first, to do this yourself it will take a lot of work/time on your behalf. If you Google how to do certain things in osC you will get various sources offering tutorials, etc. There are hardcopy publications out there as well for osC. You can Google for those sources as well. But if you put your mind to it, you can learn and do this stuff yourself. Good news is, if you don't mind paying there are lot of folks in the business who will do the work for you professionally. Many are here on the osC forums, and you might get PMs from some with an offer, or if you look around you will figure out which folks are in the business and you can go ask them. I am not one of them, I am a do it yourself osC site owner only. Good luck. I am not a professional webmaster or PHP coder by background or training but I will try to help as best I can. I remember what it was like when I first started with osC. It can be overwhelming. However, I strongly recommend considering hiring a professional for extensive site modifications, site cleaning, etc. There are several good pros here on osCommerce. Look around, you'll figure out who they are.

♥altoid Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 If you do you need to report them to a moderator as this is strictly against forum rules Crystal. Rgds Nic I wasn't aware of that Nic. I have had such PMs on paid help offers when I posted a topic I was trying to figure out. I never took them up though, I prefer to learn to do this myself. Thanks The whole point of this forum is to give help and advice to users, different levels so we can all learn, to come here in order to just use as a hunting ground for customers is not in the spirit of the forum. Don't get me wrong if some asks then fair enough but to seek out custom is totally wrong IMHO besides that if they were good enough they would not have to! The forum rules are clear on this. In my opinion such action should result in that member being banned. Just my thoughts.... Nic Sometimes you're the dog and sometimes the lamp post [/url] My Contributions

The concept is a good one. It would keep spam to a minimum. Because I have a smidgen of ability, and like to do things myself, I have benefited from the more experienced giving tips and trick to help me and others out. That being said, somewhere along the line I may need a pro to help with some hurdle and I won't have to use the yellow pages. Over the past couple years I have figured out which forum contributors make a living out of this stuff so I know who to get quotes from. :) I am not a professional webmaster or PHP coder by background or training but I will try to help as best I can. FIMBLE Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 Imagine if every post asking for help resulted in having to pay someone, the forum would not be a great place to get information as all there would only be questions with no answers! For you to ask someone to help via PM is up to you, to have someone contacting you offering their services does not help anyone who has the same question to ask, here, you will get the best person to work on your site for sure, and can be quite confident in a positive outcome. There is some huge talent on the forums that will work on your site for you and also and maybe more important will support you and their work, the thing that does concern me though are the ones who do solicit you via PM as they seem to be desperate for work which suggests they are not good at this! There are a few sites dotted around that list only osCommerce Experts for commission for working on your sites that you can contact, these people have a good reputation and have proved they support the community, and also know what they are doing. There are also some questions where the outcome can only be to hire someone as it is too involved or lengthy for the forum, on the whole IMHO its best to as you say work it out and try to do it yourself, you learn this way and are better prepared to run your store. [/quote How I have figured out who's a professional in web business is mostly via add ons that I have downloaded. When I go to the readme file, or such I have often found information that shows that the contributor is a professional web designer. First of all, that reassuing to me to see that, so that I can have confidence the code put forth should be reliable. Not that non-pros can't do it, but until I learn someone's reputation, I tend to trust add-ons by the pros first. So I think appropriate information within the add on files that shows the author is a professional is a good thing.
