a1sound Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 hello everybody a single user did about 14000+ clicks on my webshop today in only 5 hours. curiousely he/it visits mostly files like icons, buttons or images everywhere in the shop. who or what is this? it seems like a search robot or any other automatism. i don't feel very confortable with this. the ip is 85.214.21.88 if it helps. does anyone know this or had it already in his shop? greetings stefan
Jan Zonjee Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 does anyone know this or had it already in his shop? The IP-address belongs to a server from a German hosting provider (STRATO AG). The behaviour looks fishy to me but who knows?
MrPhil Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 Are you sure these are "clicks" on your pages, and not just requests for images? If they're actual clicks on links, they might be some sort of indexing bot. According to whois, only one website is at that IP address: hifi-finder.com. Is your line of business stereo equipment? If they're grabbing images off of pages (not just clicking on them), they might be scraping your site for images (although it's a pretty poor bot if it keeps repeatedly grabbing duplicate images). Consider implementing "hot link protection". Or, they might be a specialty indexer, which could help drive business to your site. Who knows.
