Accidently Deleted all Catagories and Products

So, I was deleting a discontinued product just now, was distracted for a moment and somehow the entire catalogue was highlighted or something rather than the single product. Luckly I did backup my entire website to my harddrive last week, so I have the files somewhere I'm sure, but I have no idea what files to restore. I tried a database restore, but that did nothing. Any suggestions?

have you got the back files only? have you got backup database?

Please read this line: Do you want to find all the answers to your questions? click here. As for contribution database it's located here!

8 people out of 10 don't bother to read installation manuals. I can recommend: if you can't read the installation manual, don't bother to install any contribution yourself.

Before installing contribution or editing/updating/deleting any files, do the full backup, it will save to you & everyone here on the forum time to fix your issues.

Any issues with oscommerce, I am here to help you.

My last database backup was on 9/16, the only changes were a few orders. I've printed out my pending orders and tried to restore the database but nothing happened. I also have a backup of all the files. Now what?

Dan, if your trying to restore from within the tools-->backup section under admin, I never had an success with that.

My database restores are done via phpMyAdmin that is available to me via my web host. If you have access to that via your host there is place there where you import your backup file from your local PC.

Good luck

I remember what it was like when I first started with osC. It can be overwhelming.

However, I strongly recommend considering hiring a professional for extensive site modifications, site cleaning, etc.

So that didn't work, perhaps I chose the wrong choice. Here are my restore options:

My restored tables should be named tablename__TIMESTAMP and the tables there now should be untouched.

My restored tables should be named TIMESTAMP__tablename and the tables there now should be untouched.

My restored tables should be named tablename and the tables there now should be renamed tablename__20100928_131641.

My restored tables should be named tablename and the tables there now should be renamed 20100928_131641__tablename.

My restored tables should be named tablename and the tables there now should be overwritten by the backups!

So the last one worked, My restored tables should be named tablename and the tables there now should be overwritten by the backups! But the photos did not show back up. If I have to add the photos again, I can deal with that unless there is a quick and easy way to massivly fix it.

All right, just talking my way through this. I guess when you delete a product it deletes the picture also? Does this sound right? I made a few quick checks of the pics in my backed up site's image directory and whats on the server, and the catagory and product pictures were all missing. So now I just have to wait a few hours to ftp the pictures back up and I should all be good. Thank-you for the advice on not using the built in backup restore, I think that was the main thing. Hopefully I never pull off something like that again, but I'm not counting on it.

It's me again. So it looks like whenever I go to delete a catagory, instead of that catagory staying highlighted and deleting it, it goes to the top, so if I confirm the delete the entire catalog goes. I didn't do it again, but that's my apparent issue. I guess instead of delete, I'll just rename and put different products in there unless there are anymore ideas.

Hi there, you are welcome, I hope that does work out. I am not exactly sure what you did there at the beginning, but yes, if I deleted a product totally, the image is deleted as well, so maybe that confirms your situation.

It sounds like your restore via the host option differs from mine. I have basically just the phpMyAdmin option, which takes a bit to learn but once you have it down, it opens up more management options to you.

That's something I haven't had occur. I've deleted categories, they just get deleted, all else is OK. So, not sure on your situation. Anyway, hopefully you get back up and running.

I'm thinking that I didn't get all my updates done a few weeks ago. The huge list of files that had to be changed when my PHP and SQL's were upgraded on my server only got most of the way done. Once the site was functional, I went home for the night, and never got around to fixing the last 20 or so files. Now I have to find my list of files that needed altering, and finish the job, if that doesn't work, I'm sure I'll be back. I discovered that I can't rename the catagory to something relevant, it opens up the option to edit the catagory, but it doesn't change it after I'm done, and it reverts back to the top of the catagory screen instead of staying in the subcatagory where I was before. Oh well, this means I have plenty to do tomorrow, lol.

Thank-you all for your assistance, our website get's plenty of hits, and several orders a day, having it down hurts!
