Website Error

Hi

I wondered if anyone could help me. I am fairly new to oscommerce. I have been getting a site together for the past month and all was going well untill yesterday when I hit a snag.

I was amending some of the files but when I uploaded it the site started to go down. When I first open a web browser, FF, IE or opera my website comes up straight away, but when I click on a few links on the homepage sometimes they work but sometimes the don't. They just leave a blank screen but on IE it comes up with a HTTP 500 Internal Server Error.

There were a few files that It could have been that caused the problem. My website is www.fit-supplements.co.uk

If anyone has any suggestions on what it might be or how I can fix it that would be great.

Ian,

There seem to be coding errors where your application bottom and footer are not being called. Check your index.php to ensure it is complete.

Thanks for the reply.

I will have a look through my index.php and see if there is anything wrong. A friend has told me that it could be something as simple as a symbol such as ; out of place?

Could this also be the problem?

Ian,

As I am sure you have found out, PHP syntax is unforgiving. The site simply won't function properly or not at all if you have mis-coded any portion of it.

Please post the code from your index.php file so we can see it to determine if the error is in fact in that file.

The last code in the HTML is:

Probably something wrong with the "Information Pages Unlimited" add-on.

In your /catalog/includes/application_top.php towards the top of the file there should be a line of code like this:

  error_reporting(E_ALL & ~E_NOTICE);

Change it to this:

  error_reporting(E_ALL | E_STRICT);

The goal here is to get the server to spit out an error to tell us exactly where the malfunction is.

It's supposed to show on the index page but it isn't.

But we are getting more HTML.

If the /boxes/information.php file change this line:

$info_box_contents[] = array('text' => tep_information_show_category(1) .

To:

$info_box_contents[] = array('text' => 'Category 1' .

Does the information box and the rest of the page show?

Perfect!

It seems to have fixed the problem, thanks Jim.

The only thing now is that in the info box it has the text 'Category 1' above the first shipping/Returns text link? Any ideas on how to get rid of this?

Go over the install directions for the information pages add-on and be sure you did it all.

My first guess is you never added the function tep_information_show_category() to /catalog/includes/functions.php

When you're sure you've done it all change the last line I asked you to change back the way you had it.

I got the file name wrong in my last post.

Maybe it needs to go in /catalog/includes/functions/general.php

Anyway, it's not where it needs to be in the code.
