Dan Cole Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 On my OsCommerce site I occasionally see an error message telling me that I've reached the maximum number of connections to the mySQL database. I'm thinking that this happens when Google comes a crawling. I've spoken to my host and they suggested that I should set the persistent connections to ON. I see that it is set to 'false' in the configuration files and it seems to be fairly common to recommend that it be set that way so I'm wondering if there is a down side to setting pconnect to 'true'? I'm also wondering if this will indeed solve my problem or if I should be doing something else? Will it cause other problems? Dan Need help? See this thread and provide the information requested. Dan Cole Posted January 19, 2011 Author Posted January 19, 2011 As our site grows I'm seeing this a little more often. Since I haven't received any input I've decided to set use_pconnect to true to see what happens. I guess I can always switch it back. From the reading I've done I also noted posts stating that the usual default for pconnect is "true" on a new install of OSC so I find interesting that is always recommended that that be changed to "false" although I've never seen any explanation as to why. Anyone know what is up with that and if indeed a stock install has pconnect set to "true"? You'll find pconnect in the configure files. Dan Need help?
