sneakyfoxdk Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 I just started using osCommerce and found it to be a solid solution with lots of nice features. There is one thing that would be nice to have though: To have alternative products that are managed and appear just like normal products, except they link to an external webpage and therefore cannot be added to the shopping cart. Also they have no price. I figured there might already be a module/contribution that can handle this? Or should I try to work it out myself? Thanks in advance. sneakyfoxdk Quote
Guest Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 (edited) Hans, You can add information pages, spec sheets or have PDF files accessible from the product information page using the default URL feature available when you create a new product. You can also use Product Tabs contribution to add more information about the product. These two options are more desirable than linking to another website because of the possibility of losing the OSCID when exiting the catalog and then returning to complete a purchase. sneakyfoxdk Posted September 16, 2010 Author Posted September 16, 2010 Thanks for the reply, Chris. But in this case the customer doesn't need to return to my site after purchase; the purchase is done on another website (for some of my products). So I guess I do need something not part of osCommerce by default? Regards Quote
Guest Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 Hans, You could add banners to link to other sites, you can add information pages to other sites but why you would consider driving traffic away from your site is confusing. Chris Quote
sneakyfoxdk Posted September 16, 2010 Author Posted September 16, 2010 Point taken  The other sites are affiliates of the same company, so the traffic really stays within our boundaries, so to speak. Quote
Guest Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 In that case, then banners would be perfect. Chris Quote
sneakyfoxdk Posted September 17, 2010 Author Posted September 17, 2010 Appearantly banners have been disabled in the template I'm working with. There is no contribution/add-on that can help me out? Thanks for all your help. Quote
