I have no idea I have to install git (and where to get it) as I dont/wont use git.

Just to clarify, for anyone wondering, "git" is a central code repository used by osC development. You download the current osC snapshot from it, or just individual files. You use the central repository to get a copy of osC; you don't install it on your system.

I find it interesting that no one replies to the topic headline anymore. Just saying ;-)

If you find it interesting that people on a shopping cart forum get off subject on a mute topic, then I'd say you need to get a life, dude.

The files are available for download if not officially released. Feedback was asked for by the dev team, so maybe when they have enough a release will be made. I personally like the changes I see so far.

well after spending a few more hours and adding a few of my own mods, this is starting to look like a real solid step forward for oscommerce!

I didn't come across any other issues. Good work everyone! Thank you!

your comment/suggestion should have been made when harald offered to send you a zip file "if you do not have git installed to download the source".

i have no interest in using it no matter what it would be.

i am glad osCommerce is catching up now judging by this pre-release v2.3, and i agree there is no need to go through alpha/beta process since the core code doesnt change (from 2.2rc2a) much.

While I agree that there is no need to go through alpha/beta process, there should be a public notice to let everyone know if there are anymore planned changes.

When I set small image width and leave the height blank in admin, there is an alignment problem on product_info.php. Other way round seems to be OK. Also the price does not line up on the top row with the product name, but on the 2nd row with the product model.

When I set small image width and leave the height blank in admin,...

i happen to use xhtml 1.0 as doctype and i dont see any alignment problem on product_info page. theres only a small variation between browsers RE position of price: with ie8 under win xp, the price is slightly at top, whereas in FF or ie8 under win 7, both are the same, a bit lower from the top. i dont think this is an issue.

Hi

There appears to be a problem with the <span style="float: right;"> closing tags

Such as product_reviews.php at Line 131 (there are a lot more)

The W3 validator is telling me that the </span> is misplaced.

WebrockerS:

As the thread starter, i see not problem in this thread having evolved to a more general feedback/update/status thread of the 2.3 OsCommerce edition.

Instead i find it so fantastic that so many people are offering advice and constructive criticism and questions.. This is why i love and favour OsC over many other OS carts.

I have also been following Gary on the clubosc blog, where there are also a lot of competent discussions conducted regarding osc 2.3 -i really can reccomend that.

Thanks to all the community.

1 question for you all though - anyone intersted in making a GitHub fork with 1 purpose only, being a xHTML compliant version of the otherwise standard osc 2.3 being formed right now?

I suspect many of us are interested in this, and instead of 3-10 differnet people working individually on the same goal, maybe 1 could take lead on GitHub for this purchase.

Just a though??

i am doing a xhtml 1.0 strict (have finished home page, ie, w3c validated), based on v2.2rc2a xhtml 1.0 strict I did about 2 years ago. using xhtml would eliminate the problems reported with regard to alignment, eg, right column shifted to left etc. if you are thinking about using pure css menu, then some of these menus requires strict, the transitional standard would fail.

when done i will post for everyone whos interested to download, although no release time as yet.

I am not that great with xhtml/css etc.

If I wanted to convert it to xhtml 1.0, basically just validate the url from w3c and fix those errors such as <br /> and <br>?

Thanks

That is very interesting to hear.

If i understand you correctly, you are going to make a xhtml strict version of osc 2.3, and you already have a xhtml version of the 2.2rc2a - right?

if this is the case i am very happy to hear this. However, your plan is to begin this, AFTER the 2.3 is finally relaesed, right?

My idea was if some of us, should join forces, and make a fork on GitHub, only to achieve xhtml, and otherwise follow all changes etc, as they take place on the official github version - what do you say ?

Sounds good. I have a XHTML 1.0 Strict Validated version of RC2.3 and would welcome the idea. I am trying to validate it to CSS2.1 but the UI is causing a problem

I know that file_manager and define_language have been removed; I don't know what other steps have been taken.

I did download ver 2.3 to look through it, as one might say, some window shopping. Looking in the admin, yes file_manager has been removed but I do see define_language still there. Or is it that my eyes are deceiving me?

RC2.3 - means osc 2.3? just to be sure :)

So - would you share your version on gitHub - maybe some of us could take a look and help fix the issues?

thanks
