What version am I using?

Hi,

I have a very silly question.

an ex employee set up our website and I am trying to learn all about it and how it works and how I can make changes. My problem atm is that I can't even work out what version I am using?

Surely there must be version number somewhere.

Please help,

Greg

this should be found in your admin / includes / application_top.php, or if you log into your admin >> Tools >> Server info it should also tell you there

Hi Nic,

The server info page just gives me a blank white page.

I checked application_top.php and I see $Id: application_top.php,v 1.162 2003/07/12 09:39:03 hpdl Exp $

So I'm guessing that I am using Vers 1.162 - this sounds old.

Is it easy for me to upgrade?

It should say a bit further down the page, it says something like

// define the project version
 define('PROJECT_VERSION', 'osCommerce Online Merchant v2.2 RC2a');

Ah....think I found it.

Define the project version

define('PROJECT_VERSION', 'osCommerce 2.2-MS2'

Should I stick with this version or is it easy (and safe) to upgrade?

I would suggest you upgrade, but if you hang on a bit a new version 2.3 will be out.

I am not sure if upgrade help will be available for 2.2 MS to 2.3 or not.

Current 2X versions are 2.2RC2A, the most obvious upgrades are to the code and security as PHP has moved on so have the threats and 2.2 MS is not recognised as the most secure.

So you could upgrade to 2.2RC2A then need to upgrade to 2.3 at somepoint in the near future

Thanks Nic,

As I didn't set any of this up, can you explain what is involved in upgrading? Is it very complicated? Do I need to make changes to my site or just copy some software over?

Thanks,

Hi Greg,

There are update files somewhere im not sure where they are though.

Myself i always start with a new install of the latest update and build up the store again rather than take ages updating files with upgrades

It depends on your knowledge really, it would take me not long to do this.

Hi Nic,

Are you available to work on my site for a fee?

If so, what are the charges?

Greg
