Guest Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 Hello and sorry if this topic is in the wrong place but it's my first time here. I have an oscommerce website which has been running for about 6 now and I want to move it from the server that it is on now, to another. The server that it's now is owned by my ex husband and he still has access to all my data and some control over my website as he was the one that built it and he#s the only person that I know to ask that could fix anything, but would like to get away from that area as soon as possible. I would like to ask if anyone can help with advice on how to move the site to a complete new server and who to contact to fix all the errors that are occuring in the admin area. It says Powered by Oscommerce Supercharged by CRE Loaded on the bottom of the site. If anyone can guide me in the right direction for moving the site then please feel free to contact me as any help would be much appreciated. Thank you Sue
Guest Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 Sue, If you have FTP access to the hosting account, you can download all of the files and the database to your local machine. Then, get a new hosting account and upload the files and the database to the new host. You will then need to change the 2 configure.php files to reflect the new hosting account settings. That is pretty much it. Sounds simple right ? Well, it is sort of but will take some time to do. Chris

Guest Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 Hi Chris. Thanks for your reply. Yes I do have FTP access and I can easily download them onto my pc and it does sound simple until you say, " You will then need to change the 2 configure.php files" so maybe I should ask a proffessional for that part incase I break something :( . Can you recommend anyone that can modify some of the files for me please and then maybe have a look at some of the errors/untidyness in my admin. I was looking at Hosting last night but am not sure what I need, I have no idea on how much space I would need but can you or anyone else recommend a reliable Hosting service. Thank you again Sue
Guest Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 Sue, The psychical move of the files is just as easy as it sounds and if you look at the 2 configure.php files you will see the information listed in those files and I am sure you can edit them to match the new hosting accounts information. Hosting of one osCommerce website is fairly basic. If you choose shared LINUX hosting with base options I am sure it will be enough. This should cost around $45.00 USD a year. Chris
