Guest Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Hi Guys, I am a pretty new user to the forum but have had a Oscommerce site up for well over 12 months now. Originally the person who set the site for us more or less went with the basic default template style and since we have learnt that it may not be the best style for good SEO results. Does anybody have any good suggestions, or can point me in the right direction, for some good template designs that are well written to aid in SEO. My own knowledge and skill is fairly limited in this area but I am learning fast, I do not wish to just copy someone elses good design but some guidance would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Jamie
Guest Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Jamie, The template has very little to do with SEO. You should search the add on area for SEO contributions and install some of those for better SEO results. Chris
Guest Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 Hi Chris, Thankyou for your response, we have installed various SEO plugins and have seen some results from doing that however we do have a long way to go. We are trying to look at the bigger picture and we fully understand that there is no one quick fix to achieve better search results and increased traffic, more a combination of many website based elements and backlink/blog/social network inclusions from us which we are constantly doing, however it has been suggested to us that there should be better template designs that aid in code fluidity and help search engine spiders crawl the index page more efficiently. Cheers Jamie
Guest Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 Jamie, Again, the cosmetic layout of the site doesn't effect search engines. Ensure you have no broken links, ensure you have a Meta Tags contribution, ensure you have header tags, category tags and manufacture tags. Create a sitemap, submit your URL to search engines. All the normal stuff related to getting your site indexed will increase your rankings. Chris
