Moving Cart to a New Installation

Noics Garage

Recommended Posts

Hello, I am new to OSC, but have a light to moderate background working with HTML and some PHP.

A client of mine asked to setup an OSC cart for them about a year ago (V2.2, MR2) and now have purchased a compatible skin for the cart, however the skin they sent me is a completely new installation.

I have no idea how to move their information from one cart to the next. Can anyone aid me in this process?

You can use a contribution like Easy Populate ( http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/6871 ) and dump the data from the old database into a CSV file, then using Easy Populate, import it into the new database.

OR, if you are inclined you can export the database in SQL format and import it into the new database. This will take some doing to ensure the tables are the same before the import will be successful.

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply, but Im not even sure how to install that onto the board.

Also, how do I get all the pictures that go along with the categories and such over to the new board? Just copy and paste the images directory? Im sure that will overwrite the images that the new skin is using?

Perhaps you should read through this first:

How do I..........

You will be required to have a basic understanding of the software, PHP and HTML in order to use osCommerce. This will help you with some of the frequently asked questions.

I read it .... I figured most of that out when I installed the application, but I still can't figure out to install the contribution that you suggested.

It seems you know these forums like the back of your hand; do you know of a thread where this is already discussed?

Basically I need to do is move all products and pictures to the new cart.

Unfortunately, as I stated.......you have two main choices.........use the contribution Easy Populate or use phpmyadmin to export from the old database into the new database.

In both cases, you will need to upload the /images directory to the new store as well to transfer the images to the new site.

With all respect to you, you're not helping me.

Maybe I am not explaining my skill level using PHP and SQL databases . . . I have none.

I downloaded Easy Populate and have absolutely no idea how to even install this program. I don't know what "dumping" means. I don't like how OSC works, I feel like this should no be this hard to use. Unfortunately, with my budget OSC is my only choice. Don't get me wrong, I like the way it operates and its a very well developed piece of software.

Anyways, can someone please instruct me how to install this Easy Populate contribution (IE: do I need to edit files, where do I upload them, etc). I am assuming once this is installed, I access it through the ADMIN panel and then "dump" the old database, then install Easy Populate on my new board and then somehow load the "dumped" db into the new database?

THEN, I assume I just copy the images from my current cart to the image folder on my new cart.

Am I anywhere near being close to figuring this out?
