gabrie30 Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 I am interested in starting an online store using oscommerce but have very little experience and knowledge of creating such a sophisticated website. I'm not in a hurry to open a storefront, for now I'm more interested in learning the in's and out's of getting content online. My goal is to learn how to use oscommerce within the next two years without spending any money. Currently I have a domain name which I bought from godaddy.com, and also signed up with 000webhost because it advertised free web hosting. What I've come to realize is that 00webhost does not support oscommerce unless you are a monthly subscriber. My question then becomes are there any free web hosts that support oscommerce that I could use to host my domain name while im still learning?
Guest Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 James, I am not aware of a 'free' hosting provider that will allow you the minimum requirements for osCommerce. AND if there are free hosting providers that will allow the minimum requirements, they usually litter your website with advertisements or restrict your traffic to the website. So, you should consider paying for hosting. You can get it for as little as $3.99/mth Chris

IMHO there is a limit to expecting everything for free whilst still maintaining some sort of quality to what you get. $3.99 per month for hosting is absolutely nothing , if you are so limited in experience you have two directions in which to go, 1 is to take time to learn the other is to pay for it. Thats just my thoughts on it. Nic Sometimes you're the dog and sometimes the lamp post [/url] My Contributions

If you don't want to spend any money on it, then you should install XAmpp or EasyPHP on your computer. That will simulate the web and allow you to treat your site as if it were online. It is completely free but no one can reach it from the web, of course. But that doesn't sound like it will be an issue. FIMBLE Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 Chris it was a reply, i do not suppose it matters which button was pressed in order to do it, as most people would be able to see the direction the message was going. In part it was an extention of your own reply as i was enforcing that i did not think $3.99 was too much to pay, i do not see the need to comment on it really?
