GINAG Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 Could anyone tell me if there are any good OSCommerce training books available on the market?? Or alternatively - in-house/on-site training companies for the Essex area?? Many thanks for any information given.
Guest Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 I am sure if you do a search, you will find books, video tutorials and private companies that will offer online training sessions. Chris

Chris Thanks Chris - I was more interested in recommendations - they all sound great when you review them - but may not be so great when tried and tested. Many thanks for taking the time to reply.
♥geoffreywalton Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 It depends what you want the training to cover. There is a lady called Monica on this forum who I believe wrote some books on OSC. Training on how to use OSC and what it can do can be useful but looking at all the options on the admin pages give you a very good idea. I have gathered together a shed load of link that are useful for people who want to understand how to change their site and put them on my profile page. I am back in the county next month and am just up the road from you, give me a PM then if you are still stuck. lagodilecco Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 Can personally recommend: 1) osCommerce: Professional Edition (David Mercer). It's a "read cover to cover" type of book. 2) Deep Inside osCommerce The Cookbook (Monika Mathe). This is more of a "pick what you need" book. I've used two or three of the "recipes" and they worked well. Also useful: 3) The Programmers' Guide to osCommerce (Myles O'Reilly). Has a large section devoted to administration changes (which I didn't really get when I just started, but am starting to see the use of as I learn more). Had bits and pieces which helped me, like customizing left and right columns etc. I got them all from Amazon (BTW for me the cost of importing the three from the U.S was cheaper than buying just the Cookbook locally, even with postage!). If you can only afford one, the Mercer one is probably best, it's fairly comprehensive and provides a good "springboard". Hope that helps. Diana
