Guest
Hi All, I'm a real newbie at this. I've been playing around with my setup, getting products entered, and modifying the text. No mods added, just an 'out-of-the-box osCommerce installation. I've had a software business for years, (selling to law enforcement agencies) but have never taken credit cards for purchases. Since setting up my new osCommerce shop, I want to give my customers the capability to pay with a credit card. I'm familiar with PayPal, as I have used it before as a customer, .... and I've been told that PayPal is a good hassle-free option to give customers. If I wanted to be able to accept credit cards, what would I need? I get ads all the time from rip-off spam companies wanting to set me up with a Visa reseller account, but some of these companies just look very suspicious. I'd love to get some straight advice from someone's who's been there, and can say "Here's what you do..." thanks very much in advance Nerdicus (Rich Spears) :stupid:
Guest
Richard, Take a look at the modules that are available to start with. Contact those companies. Compare rates. Decide if you want online authorization or if you're going to run the cards manually. Ask about support and charge back fees. Find one you feel good talking too. For comparison talk to your local bank. If you're a member of Costco, they also have merchant services availble.
Guest
First look to see what payment methods that OSC will take. Then I would go with a bank that you can trust. I am not currently using OSC as my cart yet, but I have had a few Merchant accounts in my day. You may want to checkout Wells Fargo Bank at http://www.wellsfargosecure.com/ They have a good explanation on how credit card processing works, and they offer two solutions for Internet transactions. They offer a regular Merchant account (Payflow etc...), or they have the suite which is Authorize.net. I have mixed feeling with using Authorize.net, but you may get a differnt opinion here on this message board. I hope that this helps.
