How much disk space do I need for a site ?

I'm building a site selling downloadble products, and am in the process of changing hosts. I'm not sure how much disk space I would realistically be using for such a shop with the view of having 100's of products, and a related forum. My current host offers 250GB, and hosts I'm interested in offer 10-20GB, and I've ssen other hosts that don't offer much more than that (and there's not much difference in the package price).

I'd appreciate any advice based on anyone's experience, or an idea of how to wok out how much space I might need.

Thanks :)

A basic shop takes up about 3 MB. From there is mostly depends on your product descriptions and images. A hundred products with a three-word description each and a 10 KB image will take up much less space than if the descriptions were 500 words each and the images 1 MB in size. So there is no general way to put a number on it. But a site with a lot of file additions and images might take up 500 MB or even 1 GB. We have hosting members that easily use 5 GB of space but those are the exceptions. So it is doubtful you would ever use 10 GB. Hosts like that say they give large amounts of disk space but if you try to use it, you will probably find that you have somehow violated their TOS so be careful. You would be better off looking for a host that can assist you with problems since the physical limits can be changed once you are with a host but their lack of support can't be.
