Add page requiring login

Hi

We are wanting to add an extra page to osCommerce, one that requires user login. The user would first be approved, as our site is a wholesale products only site. Maybe we could somehow use the control panel to restrict logins thru password protect directories, not sure how I would set that up using it to password a page in osCommerce.

I have looked at several addons to do this. But really the ones I have looked at go to far.

I did see a addon that disables the shopping cart, thought about using this in conjunction with adding (somehow) a page that is only accessed by using an approved login.

Any ideas.

Many thanks

What do you mean by approved logins? Are you going to first create accounts for users and give them their information? Or do you mean anyone can sign up, but they can't checkout unless you have clicked an approved user checkbox or something?

Please explain.

Hi Zelf

We don't want just anyone being able to login, as we are are a wholesales site.

What we would like to be able to is, A retailer "finds" our site, contacts us giving a little information about their retail operation. If we are happy we then give them a passwood and login so as they can access our price list. At the moment I don't think we need go as far as enabling them to purchase online.

I don't know if or how this could be done,

Many thanks

Hi Chris

Yes Ive got that one. Its part of what I want. All I need to do. Is somehow add the wholesale price page which would become viewable once the login has been approved.

Any thoughts.

Many thanks

John,

Normally, when I set up a site like that. I add the log in to view prices contribution so prices can't be seen, then remove the create_account links and modify the contact us page so potential retailers can request an account. Upon receipt of that request, the store owner would send the create_account link to the potential retailer.

This process can be time consuming, but is needed to ensure only authorized customers gain access to the site.

Hi Chris,

Many thanks for that.

I know this is probably a bite cheeky, but is there a site you've amended, where I can see this in operation.

Many thanks
