germ Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 Login and use the hosts cPanel to alter permissions. FTP usually croaks. >_< If I suggest you edit any file(s) make a backup first - I'm not perfect and neither are you. MrPhil Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 For security reasons, many servers are now configured to simply ignore permission change requests from FTP. As @germ said, you'll have to go through your site control panel to change permissions. Also read my sig > FAQs > Proper Permissions.
sitton Posted August 1, 2010 Author Posted August 1, 2010 hey i host with godaddy and they dont have there an option to set permission by a number. there are only 6 options there rather than 9 on the ftp. what should i do?
♥geoffreywalton Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 Use the tick boxes they provide. All boxes ticked should = 777. But I dont think they allow group level permissions to be set. You could also ask GD what ticking the boxes translates to. That is something even their first level support should be able to do.
