im trying to set the premissions like it said in the guide. right click on the folder/ file after uploading it set premission. im setting it to 755 and click ok. when i open the set premission again to make sure it has changed i see the old permission again.

i was trying it on all folders and 2 files and it happened every time.

Login and use the hosts cPanel to alter permissions.

FTP usually croaks.

If I suggest you edit any file(s) make a backup first - I'm not perfect and neither are you.

For security reasons, many servers are now configured to simply ignore permission change requests from FTP. As @germ said, you'll have to go through your site control panel to change permissions. Also read my sig > FAQs > Proper Permissions.

Use the tick boxes they provide.

All boxes ticked should = 777.

But I dont think they allow group level permissions to be set.

You could also ask GD what ticking the boxes translates to. That is something even their first level support should be able to do.
