Hello all

Before I type further, I need to state that I'm a complete numpty at all this!

I hadn't looked at our site for more than a week so when I tried to yesterday, I was surprised to see some other page appear - just afew lines of text, nothing nasty or rude :)

Anyway, I contacted my hosting service and they were very quick in replying as follows:

Hi,

Your site was hacked. I found many hackers scripts in your account. I deleted all these scripts for you and restore your site.

I advise you:

1. reset your cpanel password and the password for your site admin panel

2. scan your local PC using some good anti-virus

3. update your osCommerce and it's modules to the latest version.

--

Kind regards,

I was very grateful for their help in clearing the hackers scripts and I've followed their instructions in point 1 & 2. Point 3 however is going to be beyond me as I have no idea!

Can someone suggest my best option to get this sorted?

Many thanks

John

I'd start by determining what version of osCommerce store you have. I find that by going in to the admin side then:

tools-->server info

on that page I see my version: osCommerce Online Merchant v2.2 RC2a

Once you know your version, that's a good starting point. My hunch though is that you'll want add the security items given here

It's worth the effort. Good luck!

I am not a professional webmaster or PHP coder by background or training but I will try to help as best I can.

I remember what it was like when I first started with osC. It can be overwhelming.

However, I strongly recommend considering hiring a professional for extensive site modifications, site cleaning, etc.

There are several good pros here on osCommerce. Look around, you'll figure out who they are.

Sorry for the delay in replying! I thought I'd subscribed to the thread.

I'm using:

osCommerce Online Merchant v2.2 RC2a

I'll take a look at the link you included.

Thanks very much for taking the time to reply.

John
