rawdingm Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Hi, When I search my new jewelry website in Google, this wacky description comes up: Scarlett ScarlettBanner4. Queenie's Killer Tomato Bagel Sandwich. Ingredients. 1 bagel, split and toasted; 2 tablespoons cream cheese; 1 roma (plum) tomatoes, thinly sliced ... www.scarlettshoppe.com/ - Cached Any suggestions of the source of this site description?? I have absolutely no idea where this is coming from and I have been searching through the dense coding for hours with no success in finding these words. Secondly, how do I check if I already have an SEO add-on installed? Someone else built my site for me and I dont what it would look like if I did. Any help at all would be highly appreciated! Google will build its own description of a page if it can't figure out what you want it to be so they are taking the text from the page. If you use the View Source option from the browser, you will see that there isn't a meta description or meta keywords tag, which means you don't have a meta tag contribution installed. rawdingm Posted July 28, 2010 Author Posted July 28, 2010 I see that the text is there when I view the source, but the problem I am having is that I cannot figure out where to go to edit this text. I dont mind the text appearing as long as it says something relavent to my site, and at this point it is basically complete nonsense! Can anyone give a suggestion as to where this type of text could be located so that I can try to change it to say something different? Thanks for any help!!
Jack_mcs Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 I already addressed that. You need a meta tags contribution installed. That will allow you to set the meta description tag, which is what the search engines look at for the description of the page. They don't always use it but will most times. Not all meta tags contributions will allow you to control that tag once installed so be sure of the one you choose. I recommend Header Tags SEO.
