useroo Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 Well thanks for the first reply BKellum. I was convinced that i came to the forum via the link in your install file, the one to the STS 4.6 i mean, but perhaps during the sign-up process...... Anyway, i obviousely messed up something and i still sit on the hose in terms of understanding the process. 2.3 Copy new files From the "STS" folder, copy the new files to your store: catalog\includes\classes\sts.php catalog\includes\functions\sts.php folder catalog\includes\languages\english\modules\sts (plus all other languages you may have in your setup) folder catalog\includes\modules\sts folder catalog\includes\modules\sts_inc folder catalog\includes\sts_templates is exactly what i did. - But i begin to think that is not correct, i think i should have started with the folder STS and download everything in it or??? And, if so, into which folder of the entire osc hierarchy, Catalog or Includes This is the confusing part, i have done several Google searches on how to insztall osc templates, but nobody seems to tell into which folder they (or STS goes, sorry, kind of spoiled from the logic at Wordpress where almost everything is self explanatory, so a long learning curve for me with this osc..... Once i found out if the entire STS folder has to be uploaded and where to i assume i can go in and do these individually?? catalog\admin\modules.php catalog\admin\includes\boxes\modules.php catalog\admin\includes\languages\english.php (plus all other languages you may have in your setup) catalog\admin\includes\languages\english\modules.php (plus all other languages you may have in your setup) catalog\includes\application_bottom.php catalog\includes\application_top.php catalog\includes\column_left.php catalog\includes\column_right.php catalog\includes\footer.php catalog\includes\header.php catalog\includes\classes\boxes.php catalog\includes\functions\html_output.php ... and that should be it??? kimonworkbox Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 (edited) Hi useroo, Excuse this if it's too step-by-step, but it may also assist someone else. It seems to work this way. I am using "OS Commerce 2.2 Release Candidate A" (I don't think the current version of STS is compatible with OSCommerce 3) with STSv4.6_1 (Name of downloaded file). Please note that I am using a brand new store, so I have no concern with breakage (though this doesn't appear to have broken my site) I just started playing with OS Commerce a day ago, so see how you go with this. Easiest to: set up an FTP account to the root of your store directory (I started using Fling for FTP lately, it works a treat) Go to the STS folder from the uncompressed with 7 zip STSv4.6_1 download (I think it was a compressed directory within a compressed directory) **Get this particular one, as I think the prior install offered has issues. Copy the includes folder and paste it to the root of your web store directory. Everything is copied to where it should be. If you use fling to do this, ensure the file transfer has successfully completed. Go to the relevant installation directory in STSv4.6_1 download - in my case it's called "Files for RC2" From there, complete steps 5. and 6. Copy the "admin" directory to the root of your web store directory. There should have already been an admin folder there. Copy the "includes" directory to the root of your web store directory to overwrite any relevant files from step 2. that have been changed for this version. Sync as necessary for fling. (Forget about all the leading bits mentioned --- eg. catalog) Access newly installed module via: http://$insert-path-to-root-of-your-store-here$/admin/modules.php?set=sts This is also accessible via the modules menu in the administration console of your OS Commerce interface on the left hand side under "STS" Then it's a matter of going and installing whichever bits you want to install by selecting them and installing or editing via the bar on the right. Hope this helps :) Edited July 19, 2010 by kimonworkbox Quote

useroo Posted July 20, 2010 Author Posted July 20, 2010 Thanks kimonworkbox for taking your time to explain this to me. i am pretty good (actually a web design professional too) with FTP, HTML, Wordpress templates and add-ons, PHP and CSS and so on, and i see, others have been able to get this STS thing going - yet, i can't graps the logic of the structore. In my store front (also brandnew since this weekend, nothing to sell put in yet, just trying out things, especially how to change the storefronts look) i already have the folders "Includes, Admin, Catalog" etc. within the root of the osc installation. Reading your guidance it would appear that the STS folder itself is useless, only the INCLUDES folder and all of it's contents needs to be uploaded?? (i am doing this right now, but i think i have done this before as all the folders are inside INCLUDES already, as in Classes, Languages, Modules, Functions and STS templates. Okay, that's done, checked /admin/modules.php?set=sts all payment modules in there but no STS.... From here on in i am totally lost again! step 5 and 6?? There is a manul installation for the osCommerce Online Merchant 2.2RC2 which i have, but since mine is brandnew i think i would have to follow 2.4 Modify osCommerce files which i had done, all the 12 files mentioned put in place via WS_FTP - just done that again... Emptied Chrome cache etc. refreshed browser, logged back in, nada there, no STS showing up, also no error message of any kind!!??!! Quote

Emptied Chrome cache etc. refreshed browser, logged back in, nada there, no STS showing up, also no error message of any kind!!??!! your in the same boat I am in.. I did everything said but get no "STS" option within my modules area.. no idea what goes where or how this works, although I am familiar and not afraid of HTML nor CSS.. this entire installation of osCommerce is the most confusing thing I have ever attempted.. and I installed PyFFi and Collada and python and got those working to use the Crysis engine.. but this.. yikes. I noticed STS isnt needed if using osCommerce 3 templates.. so that is my next attempt.. forego osCommerce 2.2 and jump right into the beta frying pan ! BUT, does the simple Xampp 1.7.1 installer install everything osCommerce 3 needs ? and even then... getting a template to show up may be just as hard as it is with 2.2 I just wish there was a COMPLETE osCommerce installer out there somewhere.. which also includes some free templates just so we noobs can get a brief understanding of the process. I understand how CSS stylesheets and HTML pages work.. and I think I know how this php thing works, by building a html page from a stylesheet plus a database .. but my gawd.. where is the "html"/"index.php" page I need to link to in order to get my webstore homepage to change from the defaulted osCommerce page.. ? I managed to figure out how to edit that page, by editing the stylesheet.css in the default homepage folder.. or the text "index.css" but even manually copying all the stuff I downloaded with the osC template doesn't change the look of my homepage.. although, when I do replace the stylesheet.css with a renamed template.css stylesheet, I do see a change.. but thats because i am forcing the default homepage to use the templates css page... how do I alter the entire page though ? and yes, I am rambling here.. I think. I simply need help !! help! should I just install osCommerce 3 ? and if so.. how do I do that ? there is no installer ! Edited July 23, 2010 by yung23 Quote
bkellum Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 The blind leading the blind.... You guys miss the most important instruction of them all...POST IN THE STSV4 THREAD! This link is provided in the STS User Manual as well as posted in my signature below (STSv4 Forum). I provide FREE support in that thread only so as to keep all STS related questions in one place. On to the above posts.... STS has got to be the easiest contribution to install onto osCommerce. If you can't do it, then you might want to consider hiring someone to do it for you (as with any other contribution you may want installed). It only gets tougher from here folks. Take your time. Follow the instructions. Get to know the osCommerce software BEFORE you try to install add-ons (such as the Simple Template System). Doing this, would asnwer some of the very basic issues that you are experiencing above such as not knowing that when installation instructions mention "catalog", they are actually refering to the location on your server where you have osCommerce installed, either in the root of your server or in a folder (any folder name that you happend to use). With that said, the STS instructions state that you need to do 3 things: Upload all of the files included in the "STS" folder. No, this does not mean to simply upload the "STS" folder. It means, upload the files/folders INSIDE of the "STS" folder, keeping the file/folder structure in tact. Now you need to edit some core (stock) files of osCommerce. You either do this manually by following the code edits from the instructions or you simply upload the files from the "Files for RC2" folder. Again, this does not mean to simply upload the "Files for RC2" folder. It means, upload the files/folders INSIDE of the "Files for RC2" folder, keeping the file/folder structure in tact. TIP: Instead of making the edits manually and risk making a mistake, use a file comparison tool such as WinMerge or Beyond Compare to compare your core osCommerce files with the files inside of the "Files for RC2" folder. Merge in the differences and then upload these modified files to your store. Configure STS in the ADMIN of your store. Basically, click on the INSTALL button and then click on the "TRUE" button to enable STS. Leave everything else in the default settings until you get used to using STS. That's it. As a matter of fact, most of the contributions that you will install in the future will follow the same format above. One more thing...you should not be using osCv3 for a live store as it is still in development. You should use osCommerce Online Merchant (RC2a) instead. STSv4.6 will work with osCommerce RC2a perfectly. And last but not least...POST IN THE STSV4 FORUM. PLEASE!!!! BK, i have used your link in your STS file to post for both times i posted, but i noticed last time when i was looking for answer to my questions that it seemed to be placed in some Forum category with a totally different name. I think something in this forums structure redirects to this particular # osCommerce Community Support Forums # > osCommerce Online Merchant v2.x # > Add-Ons # > Templates and Images sub category, not sure why, but i will try your suggestions over the weekend and than try again to access the correct sub directory to post any further questions if necessary...
