If you want to make your own look for oscommerce you can either learn php and figure out exactly how oscommerce is displaying every page. I've been using it for 6 years and there still are things I don't know. Or Install STS and learn it. The part about the processing time sounds more like a reason to not learn STS then an actual problem. Unless you're doing a crap ton of business the little parse time that STS adds is irrelevant. If you are doing a crap ton of business you could hire a programmer to do it for you. I don't mean to sound rude if I do, but the easiest thing to do is learn STS if you want to give the site you're own look. The only other alternatives cost money.
