Moving an osCommerce install to a new domain

Hi,

A client currently has a version of osCommerce (v2.2 RC1) installed and hosted on another server. We're needing to move the current install from one domain to another, which is hosted by our servers.

I've tried simply copying all the files across to our servers and altering the config file to reference our servers and not the other, however this results in Internal Server Errors and other such delights.

Is there a better way to do this which will ensure that the site functions as it does now, but on the new domain?

The main problem is that I've never used osCommerce and doing a complete rebuild of the site would take more time than is budgeted for, so is out of the question.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

- Andy

simply create back up of files and database, move to new store and update the paths and domain name settings in configure.php - very process of migration.

Please read this line: Do you want to find all the answers to your questions? click here. As for contribution database it's located here!

8 people out of 10 don't bother to read installation manuals. I can recommend: if you can't read the installation manual, don't bother to install any contribution yourself.

Before installing contribution or editing/updating/deleting any files, do the full backup, it will save to you & everyone here on the forum time to fix your issues.

Any issues with oscommerce, I am here to help you.

You may have corrupted files when copying them from one server to another. Are they different operating systems, or the same? Was the copy direct system-to-system, or did you back up all the files into a zip or tar file, or did you go via a PC in the middle? You also may have corrupted the config files while editing them -- adding blank lines at beginning or end -- what did you use to edit them? Please don't say "Word"! How about .htaccess and php.ini files -- do you have different versions of server than might not accept the files from the old system? E.g., "phpvalue" statements in .htaccess are no longer allowed?

Read my sig > FAQs > "500 (Internal Server) Errors" for some info on causes.
