No email confirmation sent when using Paypal Web Payment Standard

Hi there.

 

Does anyone know how to solve the issue I'm having.

 

If a customer chooses to pay by paypal, and once they have paid, don't click the return the merchant link from the paypal confirmation page, no order email is sent to the customer, or to any addresses I have set in the extra order email field.

 

I am using Paypal Website Payment Standard module, which came with the initial store installation.
