Guest
Not sure if this is allowed - but from all the merchant card companies that I've talked to, and done business with, I really do recommend Moneris. They are very forthcoming with information and help, they go out of their way to ensure you do everything right to begin with (and they save you some money doing it) and they also can set you up with a US bank account if you don't already have one, with Harris Bank, including check card (great for Canadian merchants). They are jointly held by the Royal Bank of Canada and the Bank of Montreal, so besides being backed by billions of dollars (security and peace of mind) they also offer Canadian merchant services at incredibly discounted rates over the other banks in Canada ($600 startup fee + 3.9% & $0.35 for internet merchants at other Canadian banks). Moneris is also located in the USA so they are US merchant-centric. They've been nothing but a plus-plus for everything in my dealings with them. They also have pretty good rates: $10.00/mo + $19.95 gateway fees, 2.29% + 0.30 per transaction. There are better rates out there to be found, but the pros outweigh the cons with Moneris (for me anyway). Plus they clear the funds into your account every 48 hours per transaction day, with no "hold-back" like many other merchant services do. They also have a $20 "charge back" fee instead of $35 like most others. All in all, they've been a really nice group to deal with for my businesses. (Woo, after that glowing review I wonder if I'll get some free Moneris writing pads, pens, or other stuff as a "kick back" lol).

Guest
I use Paypal and for a real merchant account, I have a Redwood Merchant Services account through 1st American, and request the Authorize.net terminal, although others are available. I pay 2.03%, but depending upon who you pricematch and how, you can go lower, at least down to 2.0%. 1st American themselves are OK. They only do the sales and setup, and sometimes they get slow when overloaded. What's really awesome is Redwood Merchant services, which you mostly call for support after you're setup. 24 hour a day support, and each time I've called, they've answered *instantly*. I couldn't be happier. If I have a problem with my terminal, I call Authorize.net, and they're more than okay, but not as responsive as Redwood themselves. I'd recommend getting a quote from 1st American last. Take your best deal and fill out this form: http://www.1stamericancardservice.com/BeatPrice.html Also, I've been receiving a surprising # of orders through Paypal at times. Too many too ignore. Some people use it due to extra perceived purchase security, whether that security is real or not. Others use it since they trade on ebay, and have extra bucks in there. Getting a paypal account, too, is definitely worth it, but don't use them exclusively. I would blacklist: echo-inc.com and the old creditcards.com / ipayments. I think they're defunct now, though. desi
Verisign is great, very cheap $20 for 500 or less transactions. Paypal is also good after they restrict your account. Which usually take 2months to lift the restriction!
quint
one thing i learnt early on is that the rate they offer you can be negotiated down to a more reasonable level my first offer was6% and I ended up with 2.68%, if your offered a crap rate ask for a better one. the banks are a business and they are trying to make as much as possible...DONT let them. Business is hard enough without giving all your money to someone else
spin
any suggestions? I own an Authorize.Net resellership. Once you are past looking at other merchant account/gateway vendors with "free merchant accounts" other catchphrases serving to hide thier real fees, like monthly minimums, "statement fees," gateway fees, etc. ... I would like to invite you to consider my company -- MerchantIPS -- for your credit card and electronic check needs. We offer an all-in-one SecureSource (Wells Fargo) merchant account and Authorize.Net payment gateway solution. One account. No hidden fees. No smoke. No mirrors. We have worked with other osCommerce site developers if you would like references. In fact, there is an unsolicited testimonial on our site now from a merchant using osCommerce. Good ... yes. Cheap? ... we prefer cost-effective instead of cheap ;) Anyway, our prices are up-front and posted on the site. We cater to merchants who wish to conduct "card-not-present" transactions such as via fax, mail, Internet, recurring billing, and other means. We are here to help if you wish. We strongly support the concept of Open Source systems. Kindest Regards, Daniel Nelson DTOM - mmm' k
LeeH
Hi, I took your advice and went with 1st American/Redwood and got a great deal on all fees. However, I'm finding now that my gateway is really an "emulation" ... not truly Authorize.net. I'm trying to make the basic module (what Authorize.net calls the SIM method) work but eProcessing (the gateway emulation I was sold) doesn't use transaction keys, so the module won't work. Commenting out the code doesn't work either. How did you get this to work? And where did you specify the return url to get customers back to checkout_confirmation? THanks Lee I use Paypal and for a real merchant account, I have a Redwood Merchant Services account through 1st American, and request the Authorize.net terminal, although others are available.
