Trying to learn how to add a picture to my index page

I added this to the catalog/languages/English/index.php : define('TEXT_MAIN', ' <table border="0" width="450" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" align="top" ><tr><td>' . tep_image(DIR_WS_IMAGES . 'Main_board_test.jpg') . '</td> ');

 

as you can see it has pushed the right column out. I'd like this picture to align tight to the top and tight in between the left and right column.
