HELP - Newbie and Product Listing Display

Ok so firstly a bit about me and what I've done so far...

 

I'm a complete noob.

Someone else installed and modified my shop prior to today.

I've only just downloaded FileZilla to my computer and started playing.

I have downloaded and (thought) I installed "product_listing_columns_2_2_9.zip - however this doesn't seem to have changed anything or added any additional options to my Admin Config menu.

What I am trying to do:

I want to change the way the products are displayed... all the searching of the internet I have done says it is possible but doesn't include screenshots (so how do I know its what I want??) and as previously mentioned... I installed something (above) and nothing has changed.

 

I would like to have my products listed in a similar way to these websites (also using Oscommerce)

Also - If possible, I'd like to make my store "wider" - on my screen (normal laptop using firefox) it has side borders about 5cm thick... can I reduce this?? which would in turn give me more space to list products.

 

I am VERY sorry if this has been asked and answered a million times BUT what I need from a response (and I do appreciate greatly anyone who can help) some VERY BASIC instructions on what to do...

 

Step by step instructions and direct links to whatever I need to download would be fantastic, because as I said... I have no idea what I am doing!!

 

If anyone else can recommend anything I'd love to hear from you!

Hi

What you ask is quite substantial and seeing as you have already paid to get this far, why not go back to the person who installed and modified it in the first place?

Also whoever did do it seems to have left the column right in place but removed the boxes, they need to either remove this column right totally or put the boxes back, this alone will increase the size of you store.

I used contribution 6051 and played around with the settings to get that listing:
