Reinstall but keep old database?

Dreamhost decided to switch me over to a new server with about an hour's notice on Sunday of course. Now, I'm getting all kinds of errors and I'm pulling my hair out trying to fix everything with zero help from the source of these problems. My question is this: can I reinstall OSCommerce and pull in my old database somehow? I have over 16,000 products in there plus my giant customer list and order archive. I *really really really* don't want to have to recreate all of that. Please, I beg of you OSC Gods, tell me I can do this somehow.

Laurel,

Your answer is YES.

You can import parts of the database you want. Categories, customers and orders are all stored in the current database, just export the current database and download the images folder. Create your new site, configure it the way you want and then import the parts of the database you need to keep. Upload the original images into the newly created images folder and your new site will have the same data in it as the old site.

Thanks for the reply Chris. One more quick question. When you say to import the parts of the database, is that in my host's webpanel I'm assuming and not in OSC itself?

Laurel,

You will export the database using myphpadmin in SQL format. Export all tables and save the file to your computer desktop.

Then, when you have the new site created, you will use myphpadmin SQL to import the parts of the old database you want, into the new database.

Thanks so much! I have the database downloaded, but now Dreamhost is having a phpMyAdmin issue, so now I'm stuck. God I hate them.

Laurel,

Just a note. If you have contributions installed that have changed the default tables you want to import and you do not have the same contributions in the new database, you will have to alter the tables to MATCH. Keep that in mind if you receive errors.
