Admin Orders module empty

When I look at the 'Orders' from within the 'Customers' section of the Admin page, nothing is listed, however if I type in an order id in the appropriate field it will display the order.

This of course means they are there and everything else seems to be working correctly, the orders just dont list in the orders screen

 

any help with this problem wouldbe most appreciated. Thanks
