grumpydasmurf Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 I have some freely distributed manuals on my website, that are availble to purchase at the price of $0.00. I have them there honestly for the search engines to bring people to the site and get them to create an account, thus be added to the mailing list (incase you are wondering why I am offering something free). The problem I am having is that even though the balance is zero, the customer must still proceed to make a payment. They can (as setup in my prefrences) pay with paypal or mail in a money order. Well, I don't feel like approving each "purchase" so that they are emailed the download link location. Is there no way to automatically provide the customer with the download link after "checking out"? in other words after adding the item to the cart, then checking out, can we skip the whole shipping and payment pages? FWIW, I worked around the shipping charge by adding in table rates and making 0:0.00. However I'd prefer if the screen even not appear. I'm ok that it does, since the customer can select free shipping... but I need to find a way to skip the Payment screen. http://chicagogunsmith.com/catalog/maintenance-manual-1005-p-24768.html Grumpy
recoil-jay Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 Why don't you offer a free download in the product description and put a banner/button there to say, download this for free and just create a link to the files?
Guest Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 Thomas, This contribution allows for free downloads. http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/4933 Chris
grumpydasmurf Posted June 8, 2010 Author Posted June 8, 2010 Why don't you offer a free download in the product description and put a banner/button there to say, download this for free and just create a link to the files? Simple enough, but again the goal is to get the customer to create an account therefore signing up to the newsletter. I am aggressively trying to get the number of registered users up as quickly as possible so I can begin an email campaign, and make it worth while. Dunweb I will look into that contrib. I was hoping there was a way to do it without further modding the code. The good thing about OScommerce is that it's easily modifieable, the bad thing about oscommerce is that it NEEDS to be modified to do just about anything. I've already installed so many add-ons that when the time comes to upgrade the base code, I am going to be totally Bleeped! Thanks again, I'll look into the mod that you suggested now. Grumpy
