SMCIT Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 Good Morning, We use oscommerce for our online bookstore. We currently use the standard shipping module. We fixed the cost at $6.95 because that is how much our flat rate shipping with USPS costs per package. Right now if someone orders something that takes two or three packages, it still only charges them $6.95. That costs us money, not cool. But if we do a per item charge, it charges people $14.00 if they order two books and we put them in one package, also not cool. Could you peeps recommend a module that would have the ability to do incremental shipping, (if i'm even saying that right) example: It charges $6.95 for the first item, $4.00 for the second, and so on. Or maybe there is some configuration with the current modules that I'm not seeing. Thanks! Ben Quote
jonasgrumby Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 (edited) You can use the weight table. The weights do not have to be accurate. They only have to correspond with the rates. So, if it costs $6 to send one book and $8 to send two books, you could say that each book weighs one pound, and up to one pound costs $6 to ship, up to 2 pounds costs $8, etc. Also keep in mind that in Configuration > Shipping & Packaging when you set the maximum shipping weight, that means the maximum weight you can put into one box. Anything heavier than that is considered to need more than one box. The tare weight is the weight of the packaging itself without the item. So you could set your books at one pound each, set your max weight to one pound, and then increase the shipping charge by the percentage each time they add another book. You might want to set your tare weight to zero just to keep it more streamline. HTH Edited June 8, 2010 by jonasgrumby Quote
jonasgrumby Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 p.s. the MultiGeoZone MultiTable contribution lets you set up tables based on item count. Quote
