mondobongo3 Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Hy all! I'm wondering if there is a add-on, or somebody was thinking to this. What I want is to offer discount (like discount coupons) for users who choose a specific payment service. I want this is to encourage customers to use what it's most comfortable to me. Thank you !
mondobongo3 Posted June 7, 2010 Author Posted June 7, 2010 Anybody used this? http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,248 And if did, how do you set the Service, because I can't figure out. Thnaks
NodsDorf Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 I remember talking about this a couple years ago. There was some thought that giving discounts for NOT using a payment type you offer was the same as charging extra for using this payment type. In most cases this is against a companies ToS. In some cases it can even be against the law. PayPal for example will bone you if they catch you doing it. And in my state Ohio, you can't pass the credit card charge (typically 2-3%) onto a customer simply because they wish to use a credit card. You can however, require a minimum sale amount. I know there was atleast one module that claimed to allow you to add a processing charge for certain payment types, but I never really looked into it. What I ended up doing was focusing more on the service / products I was offering and worked under the assumption of the highest cost payment method in my price structure.
burt Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 This would be fairly simple to achieve using a discount coupon. v1.2 of my system (in the downloads area) adds the input box for the coupon on the payment page. All that you'd need to do is not add that input box, but instead initiate the coupon on the checkout_process page depending on what payment is used. Yes, doable, with a little bit of thought and effort.
mondobongo3 Posted June 8, 2010 Author Posted June 8, 2010 Well, I don't want to extra-charge, but to give discount for using a certain system... Is it against law ? Or just extra-charging is?
MrPhil Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 Well, I don't want to extra-charge, but to give discount for using a certain system... Is it against law ? Or just extra-charging is? Same thing. A discount for one kind of payment is equivalent to charging extra for another kind of payment. Laws vary (we've all seen "4 cent discount for cash" at gas stations), but whether your payment processor will allow it is up to the Terms of Service you agreed to. And many won't allow it, if it means you're charging more for them (meaning less business for them). If you're really concerned about driving customers to one payment system, make that one the only system you offer. Don't bother with the others, or take check/money order as an alternative.

Thank you for response. I think this is what I will do. Better and safer :D
