Hi guys I am setting up a web site to sell computer parts and customisable PCs, however I dont not have a filter on my products info page to filter products by different specs,, ie memory size, processor speed, motherboard sockets. I need this as customers are going to want to find certain products quickly and by certain specifications of parts. I have seen the addon products_specifications_1_0_1, which seems to be what iam looking for as you can set a set of filters for product categories. Iam just wondering if this would be the correct addon for what iam looking for and also I have over a thousand products and dont want to have to add each product individually in the admmin area, as it will take alot of ime, what iam asking is? is the products_specifications_1_0_1 addon easy to use and if i set a filter, will it automatically filter the products in a caetgory or do i have to add each product to a set of specifications for them to be filtered under a certain headings

Kind Regards

You have to add the specifications that you want to filter on to each product. This is done in the New Product page, along with all of the other information that you add for that product. Specifications do have to be set up first, and connected to a group of products, before the data fields will show up.

Do you know of any way to write it into the code as opposed to having to add the addon so as to not have to add each product into a certain specifications as i have over 1000 products. I just want to be able to filter prodcuts within two-three of my categories like processors and memory

If I understand what you want, the existing code will work just fine. I could be more specific if you give me more information about what you want to do.

Hiya Jim

Appreciate your yime in this matter. Basically i am selling computer parts, like processors and motherboards, memory, and I want to be able to filter theses products according to certain filters. Although the specification addon is good it could be a little time consuming for me in the long run. I you could email me at [email protected] or if you could give me your email, I could email you an attachment of a picture that best shows what I am looking to do.

Products Specifications will do what you want. You have one of the cases it was designed for.

There are simpler filter Addons, but they would need some modifications to work for your store. Look at the Year-Make_Model Addon (auto parts) or the Toner/Ink Filter Addon.
