ASCONAN Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 Hello everyone! I'm new here and I would appreciate it if you could be so kind to give me a little bit of help. I have an osCommerce website (v. 2.2 RC2). I need to put an announcement in a subcategory like "this category will feature products during the winter" for example. INSTEAD of adding products, how can I add an announcement that can show up in this category? By any way, whether that can be text or even an image in the middle of it when someone opens this category, I don't mind. I just need to know how. :) Thanks a lot in advance! All the best!
Guest Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 Dimitris, Why don't you just hide the category until you have items to put into it ? http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/7117 Chris
NodsDorf Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 Another thought would be to use the STS (Simple Template System) and create whatever you want to display for that category like I did here. Then when you have products just change the page template back to default to display the products. What you're going to run into is that Oscommerce uses a general statement when there are no products for a category. You can define this, but its a blanket statement for every category with no products. Seen here and here. Same statement 2 different pages. I will point out STS is fairly easy to use but did require a learning curve for me, a couple weeks till I got used to it. Now, I think it is the cats meow. The good thing about STS you don't have to use it for every page on your site, you could simply use it for your categories make a template file for those that need it and leave everything else alone.
ASCONAN Posted June 3, 2010 Author Posted June 3, 2010 First of all thank you both so much for taking the time to give me an answer :) Chris, the need is to show that the website DOES sell the product during winter time, but that it isn't available at the moment :) Don: Thanks alot, this sounds really interesting, I 'll check it out :) Dimi
