Install error when specifying DB (authentication)

Hi all

I am trying to install oscommerce (2.2 RC2a) for a friend. Server is Windows 2003 and IIS.

I installed and succesfully configured PHP and mySQL 5.

When i go to http://mysite/catalog after copying the oscommerce files, i receive the install page. I click on Continue to set the DB, i enter localhost in db server, user root, password, and name of the db. When i click on Continue, i get the following error message:

"mysqlnd cannot connect to MySQL 4.1+ using old authentication" .

Why is oscommerce thinking i am using the old version of mysql?
