Help needed getting into an old system

Hi all,

Im new to osCommerce and i need some help gaining access to a rather old version of the system that is running a site for one of my customers. I deal with their on site IT support and they have asked me to look at the web site as their developer has gone AWOL.

At the moment i have access to the database via a login to phpmyadmin and i can also FTP onto the server. I have been looking at some of the files trying to work out the version, its pretty old as /catalog/index.php shows v1.1 2003/6/11 and /catalog/configuration/configuration.php shows v1.4 2003/6/29. By the look of it, the current versions now have an 'admin' section rather than 'configuration'

I have been forwarded a load of emails that are 3 or 4 years old and have tried to log in to the back end at /catalog/configuration/configuration.php but none of the username/password combinations ive use want to work. I can see the username in the 'Administrators' table in the DB and i tried adding a new user there with an MD5 password manually but that didnt work. The is also reference in one email to access to the back end being controlled via a .htpasswd file but the info in there doesnt work either.

One oddity is that when i try to log in, it doesn't give an incorrect username/password error as you may expect, it just goes back to the blank login form.

Can anyone give me any advice on how i can get back into this system?

Many thanks,

James

Can nobody Offer any advice on this?

I am going to try and move the database and files to my own server so I can hack about with it a bit without breaking the live site. I was wondering if I could do an upgrade, or restore the database to a newer version and reset the password somehow that way.

Any help from someone who know what they are doing really would be good!

Cant believe that almost 60 people have viewed this thread and no one has any help to offer...

Anyway, i have managed to get into the back end of the system now by editing the login code so it doesnt look at the password. Not pretty, but it worked. Also not ideal moving forward!

According to the server info page, the system is "osCommerce 2.2-MS2" the admin section looks very different and very basic compared to the up to date version i have installed on my test system. I have seen reference to an updated admin interface in some posts but not been able to track down how to implement it.

What i would really like to do is update the site to the latest version, with the new admin interface, then i can create admin users that work so i dont have to mod the code and make the site less secure. I have read the "upgrade-22rc1.html" document in the install download, but it seems to document all the changes and not tell me how to perform an upgrade, unless i have to make all these changes myself?!

Please guys, any help really would be good. I feel like im talking through treacle at the moment.

Regards,

James
