NodsDorf Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 I was thinking it would be really cool marketing idea to have an app that connects the Oscommerce site to a Facebook app. On the product page you could have the image of the product then a share button which post a thumbnail and Text saying "'facebook_user' is thinking about 'product' at yourwebsite.com" or "'facebook_user' recommends 'product' at yourwebsite.com" When purchased the customer could share: "'facebook_user' decided to buy 'product' at yourwebsite.com" Then once the product has been delivered an email with a facebook share link which post "'facebook_user' It's Here! my 'product' at yourwebsite.com arrived in Xdays,Xhours,Xminutes" I have looked into making Facebook apps myself and know there would be some Facebook coding to do but an API connection with oscommerce would be really spiffy. Has anybody worked on, done, or thought about something similar?
GerardH Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 Yes! VendingBox have a plugin which does deep integration with oscommerce including import of shipping, tax, payment settings, stock levels etc. http://http://www.vendingbox.net/ An example on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/pages/VendingBox/116638055058102
♥bruyndoncx Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 just tried the vendingbox solution, as it stands it supports US based stores it seems pretty well limitations are; - assumes single language (in products and categories description) - assumes tax rate is the same for all products - assumes you show prices tax exclusive It looks promising, but if you have customzed your orderhandling you might need to customize the provided interface as well. KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON I do not use the responsive bootstrap version since i coded my responsive version earlier, but i have bought every 28d of code package to support burts effort and keep this forum alive (albeit more like on life support). So if you are still here ? What are you waiting for ?! Find the most frequent unique errors to fix: grep "PHP" php_error_log.txt | sed "s/^.* PHP/PHP/g" |grep "line" |sort | uniq -c | sort -r > counterrors.txt

Hello Carine! Thanks for trying out VendingBox and for the feedback. We're still in beta testing right now so there will be some bugs and unexpected behaviour for a few weeks. It's great to get feedback and bug reports, so anybody else who wants to check out VendingBox is very welcome. VendingBox is free during beta testing. It's very early and we hope to implement new features soon. We'll definitely be looking at multi-language support and better tax handling. Showing prices with tax included is something that we'll have to figure out. It's necessary to know where the customer is before you can know how much tax to add, but the customer gets to see the prices before he or she specifies a shipping address. That makes it easy when the merchant charges the same tax regardless of shipping location but trickier otherwise. @dontlike2pay: Google's bots won't even be able to tell that the integration is happening. All of the data-swapping happens behind the scenes, so unless you have a link from your website to your Facebook fan page, or a link from the fan page to the website, Google will never know the two are connected.

As I understand it, more links are good for your Google ranking.
GerardH Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 just tried the vendingbox solution, as it stands it supports US based stores it seems pretty well limitations are; - assumes single language (in products and categories description) - assumes tax rate is the same for all products - assumes you show prices tax exclusive It looks promising, but if you have customzed your orderhandling you might need to customize the provided interface as well. VendingBox aims now to support tax schemes [prices tax inclusive, no tax, flat rate & destination based tax]. But you are correct it does assume the same tax rate for all products. If we have enough requests we'll add this. If we were to implement 5 new features in VendingBox, what would they be right now?
Mailware Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Incorporating Facebook into your website is a fantastic idea. Social media has a lot of opportunity, however, the key to its success for your business is being able to form a two-way interface with your customer base and measuring the results of this two-way communication.Using analytics will enable you to see the demographics of your users, which will help you to segment your consumers. If you go to the following link, <a href="http://developers.facebook.com/docs/guides/web">Facebook</a> this should help guide you in the right direction to incorporating Facebook into your website. I hope this feedback helps. Best of luck to you. Mailware - Multi Channel Manager

At VendingBox we have now added support for multiple languages, in the provided interface. English, Spanish, German, French, Italian, Portuguese, Norwegian, Swedish, Dutch, Romanian, Polish, Hungarian, Turkish, Czech, Danish, Irish, Russian, Bulgarian and Ukrainian. We also support multipler currencies, and the ability to automatically import multiple languages from systems like oscommerce. VendingBox support thread This completes our first round of localistaion, language support, but we really value suggestions on how this can be improved. Please let us know if there is something else you would like to see there. Regards, GerardH
