Guest
They appear to be up for me (2:40pm PST - Friday Feb, 28, 2003) Any hosting company can have hiccups in their system, but 8 hours is quite a hiccup  I personally know of 3 people that have moved from freehostingweb.com due to various issues like downtime and mysql connection errors. But what's an 8 hour hiccup when the account is virtually free ;)
Acronym B.O.Y.
8 hours?!?  That is quite a long time. If I get a page (I use a monitoring service in addition to the one my host provides) that one of my servers is down and don't get a page saying its back up in 8 minutes, the first thing I do is call the NOC. Thankfully I have only had 20 minutes of downtime since switching to them and that was because they were swapping out a router. Maybe I'm a little demanding, but I believe anything over 10 minutes deserves and explanation.

Daemonj
8 hours is an extremely long time for a site to be down but it may not be due to your host. Do a tracert and verify that you are able to get to your site. If not then it is a router problem on the way to your site and may not be under the control of your host. In fact, if this is the case then your site would be up and accessible to some people while appearing down to others. Free hosting does have it's drawbacks. Check out some of the webhosting forums for comments on your host by other current and previous customers. "Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocre minds. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence." - A. toolcrazy
And if you do want to make a recomendation, just PM it to them. I don't like free providers. They change their rules on a regular basis, they drop features without notice, and all the adds that end up on your site. They are worthless unless you want them for a family site. But, even then, with services that offer hosting for $5.00 a month or even $9.95 a month (with mySQL and PHP) are they really worth it. Guest
Why would anyone take a chance with their business on a free web host? If you cannot afford the $20-$50 fee a month for a good host then maybe you need a new business plan.
