Guest Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 For some reason includes/languages/english.php isn't working properly for me. When I go in to edit information on this page it won't allow me to save it. Every time I hit the save button after editing, it will not load. I keep getting a 'page not available' or 'page cannot load' error message each and every time I try to save the new information. This has been going on for a few days now and I really need to change the info on my homepage (english.php)...any help would be appreciated! Please note: My internet connection is fine, I have tried this on several different computers with the same results.
Collines Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 Are you referring to file_manager.php. You should really erase this file as it is a security risk. See the security forum here for more information about that. Download the file includes/languages/english.php and edit it in a text editor, dreamweaver or some other editing program then re-upload it.
NodsDorf Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 Hello BB, As stated already, filemanager should not be used and immediately removed. Here is another post discussing the same issue, and solutions on how to operate your site without using filemanger.php
Guest Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 Thanks for the replies. However, I am a newbie when it comes to this sort or stuff...I had the site built for me and I'm not even sure how to remove/upload files. I have been using file manager to add/change info for months now but it has recently stopped working. I have no idea how to edit my main page otherwise...it would help greatly if I were to receive step by step instructions on how to accomplish this. Thanks!
Collines Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 You will be hacked if you use file manager. It is a bad security risk. Nobody uses it anymore.
Guest Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 Click on the links in my signature below. There are some threads that can offer a lot of help. Just to jump on the wagon, you should not use the file manager to edit your files. The file should be removed along with the links to it.
NodsDorf Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 You will be hacked if you use file manager. It is a bad security risk. Nobody uses it anymore. Hello BB, To delete the filemanger file do the following. Go to yourwebsite.com/cpanel Login Find the tab labeled File Manger Open it navigate to public_html>catalog>admin find the file named filemanger.php and click delete To operate your store without Filemanger you can access your files exactly as above. You'll need to download them edit them, and re-upload the fixed version. -Additionally many host allow you to edit files directly through their filemanger however this is not recommended. Because it is easy for the file to become corrupted and you have no way to "go back" to previous version unless you download it first. There are many programs that will allow you to edit the file once downloaded, if you don't have one try EditPad Lite it is free. I personally use Adobe Dreaweaver and there are tons of other programs available. (Google: PHP Editor) Now the best way is to also use a FTP (File Transfer Protocol) program. (Google: FTP Program) This allows you to connect directly with your website and hard drive to download / upload pages. -Once again there at TONS of FTP programs. I use FireFTP in conjunction with my browser Firefox. --You will need to configure the FTP program to connect to your site. It usually looks like ---Yourwebsite (yourwebsite.com) your host login name, your host login password, port: 21 -You can also connect with your browser simply by replacing http://yourwebsite.com with ftp://yourwebsite.com (this however will likely need configured with your host) It may sound a bit daunting but it is very easy once you get into it. Hope this helps, Don
Guest Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 Alright, so I downloaded FileZilla but I'm having trouble connecting to my server. In the quick connect bar I put in mydomain.com then what do I use for username and password? Do I use the same info that I would normally use to log into mydomain.com/admin? I am using Go Daddy as my website host.
NodsDorf Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 You would use your GoDaddy.com username and password. Just like if you were logging into http://www.yoursite.com/cpanel
Guest Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 You would use your GoDaddy.com username and password. Just like if you were logging into http://www.yoursite.com/cpanel GoDaddy never gave me a username, only a customer # and password. I have tried entering these details into FileZilla but it won't connect. I do not have a http://www.mysite.com/cpanel page....I edit my site at http://www.mysite.com/admin...
NodsDorf Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 That should work.. here is what Godaddy says http://community.godaddy.com/help/2008/07/14/how-to-ftp-to-your-server/
