maou Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 Hi All, I am setting up a shop on our website and would like to know if osCommerce would be able to be integrated into an existing webisite with a managed 3rd party CMS ( i am in charge of the online content but only through our CMS - our web developement company have suggested i can do the shop myself). I was going to just add paypal but looking at osCommerce, i like its functionality. Sorry i am a bit of a newbie so i hope i am making sense. Thanks for your time
Guest Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 Emma, OSC is a fully functional e-commerce solution with its own CMS through the admin panel. You COULD use your CMS for the landing page but OSC would function by itself. Chris
MrPhil Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 Unless someone has carefully integrated osC with your particular CMS (I think a Joomla bridge exists), osC will operate completely independently of the CMS. It will not share the login ID or password, or external customer settings. Its styling (CSS) will have to be manually fixed up to match the rest of the site. Most importantly, if you leave osC with stuff in your shopping cart, or signed on, and go out into the rest of the CMS for a while, when you return to osC you will probably have lost your "session" and your cart will be empty. If these are important points for you, many CMSs have their own plug-in shopping carts. You might want to look at the one for your CMS and see if it's adequate for your needs. It's probably not as flexible and extensible, or as feature-rich, as osC, but it might be a lot easier to integrate.
