The e-commerce.

emails go to my junk email box

Recommended Posts

I have read a lot of threads about things with emails but I am not sure why this is happening.

I am trying to send out an email to my affiliates, i have made sure that I am not using any words that spam filters would call spam. Some of my order emails are going there as well.

If I send the email out using OSC in my test to me it come in my spam or junk email box in outlook.

If I send the same email to myself using Outlook it comes in to my inbox fine.

I have changed my transport setting and used both setting but still the same.

Is there a way or a place to check if I am on a spam list for my domain?

Is there a way to change the headers being sent from OSC that help it look like a good old email?

Any ideas?

Can you post the Email headers? This should give us / you an idea of where the email is coming from. In many cases using a host without a dedicated server somebody on that server at some time has gotten flagged as a spammer. Therefore, the email sent from example@ns4ahost.com will naturally get flagged as spam.

I'm not sure the best way to deal with the issue is, but knowing where the email originates will give you an idea where to start.

I am not sure what you mean by finding out where the email is coming from.

I thought in my post I was saying that they came from me to my affiliates. If I create an email and use the store sendmail or smpt program to send an email to myself it goes into my junk email folder. But if I copy and paste that same email into my own Outlook mail program on my pc at home and send it to myself it goes into my inbox.

The only thing I could find is in Outlook under Actions then junk email then junk email options there is a box that is checked that says... When sending email, Postmark the message to help e-mail clients distinguish regular email from junk email.

If that could be implemented in the osc sendmail scripts, not sure what they are doing, it would help all of us to be able to send email more spam free.

You asked to see the email headers.. If that is still needed I will but do not know how to get them so I need that step so I can post them please.

Thanks

Do you see how the received from is: ecbizz66.inmotionhosting.com ?

This is the server that is actually sending the email. If your host's server has been used by spammers it could have very well been flagged as a spam server. You as a customer (likely using a shared server) will

suffer from others actions.

Try making a free gmail, hotmail, yahoo email account and see what happens to an email sent to those accounts.

If you just want to fix the emails so they get to you in outlook you can add your site as a "Safe Sender" and save it. More importantly though, is how your customers will receive your email that is why you want

to check the 3 major email service providers.

I will later today set up the 3 different accounts.

But what confuses me is when I send an email from the store or from my pc don't I use the same email server? I have outlook set up to use my main domain and the store is on the webserver of that domain.

That is why I am asking how can one email from my store go to junk and the one from me go to my inbox?

anybody else have any ideas?

My opinion is the 2nd one (that DIDN'T bounce) has reverse DNS lookups in the header:

Delivery-date: Mon, 17 May 2010 07:31:34 -0700

Received: from [72.19.174.111] (helo=drumwex) <==== Reverse DNS lookup

by venus.lunarpages.com with esmtpa (Exim 4.69)

Whereas the first one is missing that info.

When I first got involved with web sites back in 2002 we had the same problem when our site moved to a new server.

AOL was bouncing the email because it had no reverse DNS lookups.

That being said, I honestly have no clue how to add them.

When it happened to us, the "techies" on the server did something to fix it.

If I suggest you edit any file(s) make a backup first - I'm not perfect and neither are you.

I am having my host look into this about the reverse-DNS lookup.

Does anybody know if there is a way to have the store do it in the headers it sends so it looks the same way?

If anyone could add it via a simple script it would be worthless as a screendoor on a submarine for it's intended purpose (reducing spam).

I'm sure it has to be done in the mail program setup on the server.
