Add a new field to the check out process/how to view order comments from customer

I would like to add a new field above comments to the check out process that is saved so that i can view the extra information.

 

Additionally, I cant figure out how to view the order comments that people leave.

I would also settle for the ability to have the custoemr attach this information to his account too.

Order comments appear on the Order when you view it from Admin>Customers>orders

 

 

As or the extra field, can you be more specific ? The comment field could be used for this function.

Strange, i've made a few test orders and I dont see my comments on any of them, just the billing/shipping information.

 

I was planning on using comments for my functionality, but I would really like for it to be a required field.

 

I want to add a field on the checkout for them to input a user name and character name for an online game, for which the order will be delivered to.
