Tony.O
Hi, I'm looking for software I could use to sell a service on my website. Can someone tell me if osCommerce will work for this, and if not, what will? I need it to look professional and to blend in with the rest of my website. Just a place for customers to enter their credit card info and the money gets sent to me, not so much a shopping cart. Thanks!
germ
Before you start collecting CC info (no matter what software solution you choose) you should read about PCI Compliance ( <= it's a link, click it to read more). Being PCI compliant isn't cheap or easy so most choose an external payment processor (Paypal, Authorize.net, etc.) If I suggest you edit any file(s) make a backup first - I'm not perfect and neither are you. Guest
If you do not need a shopping cart system, you may be better off simply using a Paypal "Buy Now" button and simply incorporate it into your existing site. Paypal buttons are easy to generate and it is a small piece of code you place into your web page(s). Your customers can pay with a credit or debit card or e-check, or if they have a balance in their own Paypal account they can pay from their balance. Which ever way the customer pays, the money is immediately deposited into your own Paypal account, which you can widthdraw directly to your bank account (transfer), or you can widthdraw with a Paypal debit card at an atm machine. If you do decide to use oscommerce, it can be modified to look and feel like your existing web site as well.
