Error: I can not write to this directory. Double check that whatever method you're using to change permissions is actually changing them. Many FTP clients will think they've changed a file or directory permission, but really haven't (due to server security settings). In such cases you need to use your site control panel file manager to change permissions. As for the correct permissions themselves, you need to find whether Apache/PHP are running as owner (755), group (775), or world/other (777), and whether server security software (e.g., suPHP) is preventing overly broad permissions such as 777 (if that's what you set).
