muzzat
We have just created our site www.dishandspoonfinefoods.com.au and our hoster is not of any use with oscommerce. We just need to edit the main page and i've found out how in the how do I guide but cant work out how I get to catalog/includes/languages/english/index.php - although I have an oscommerce site which was set up some years ago by a 3rd party, it's a 2003 version and has Page Editor as one of the choices in the left hand admin box which the 2008 version doesn.t appear to have. Change the default text on the front page? Go to catalog/includes/languages/English/index.php Find the following line that starts with the following (about line 13 – usually the first one ) and change it to what you want it to say Hope someone can help please as this is driving me to distraction at this point!' Mort-lemur
Hi, 3 Options: 1) Install the "Define Mainpage" contribution. 2) use the file editor in your host cpane to find, open and edit the file. 3) use an ftp programme (such as filezilla) to find the file on your server, then download to a text editor (such as notepad++) edit the file then upload again by FTP. More importantly - If you have just set up the store, and dont yet know how to edit files, Would I be right in assuming you have not installed any of the security updates? - If you have not, then forget editing the mainpage text and put priority on the security updates before you even consider going live - If you dont then you WILL be hacked, its just a case of when. Thanks Now running on a fully modded, Mobile Friendly 2.3.4 Store with the Excellent MTS installed - See my profile for the mods installed ..... So much thanks for all the help given along the way by forum members.
Joppeb
Is anywhere a content list of which files do contain what text? Just trying to find a file with filezilla is so time consuming and so medieval. Is there some content list?

Mort-lemur
Maybe you could mention which file is to be edited? there is no file called mainpage, thanks OK You will find all the files that you may wish to change what the text says in catalog/includes/languages/english/ (or your language) The one concerned with the mainpage is index.php. The install guides in the posts on installation and configuration give you all this detail Thanks Now running on a fully modded, Mobile Friendly 2.3.4 Store with the Excellent MTS installed - See my profile for the mods installed ..... But in V 3.x catalog/includes/languages/[language name]/index.php does not exist. there is catalog/includes/languages/ {language name] /images and catalog/includes/languages/ {language name] /modules And for v3.x no install documents in download files and no guides in v3.x forum. I guess that is part of my problem. Thanks anyway on http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/topic/353735-how-to-change-default-text/ is a solution for a part
♥mdtaylorlrim
Thank you so much. But in V 3.x catalog/includes/languages/[language name]/index.php does not exist. Maybe you will get better answers if you post in the version 3 forum instead of here. Community Bootstrap Edition, Edge Avoid the most asked question. See How to Secure My Site and How do I...? Freedom2
After you log in, look to the left side of the page. There you will see Configuration, and etc in a list. Select "Tools" then select "Define Languages" or "File Manager". Took me a minute to find it too, but that is where you will edit the files for the main page. On second thought: Select "File Manager" then select the folder, "includes" double click to open. Then select "Languages" folder to open. Then select "English" folder, double click to open then highlight the file "index.php" then scroll up the page and click the EDIT button to open the file to allow editing. I would copy and paste the entire file into Notepad, just in case you make any mistakes. Then you can just copy it back into the file, no harm no foul.
